What’s the Candy Cane Parade without Candy Canes?

The Candy Cane Parade is a seasonal favorite for South Floridians. It features lighted floats, music, candy and more. All for the crowd that lines up on the boardwalk at Hollywood beach, that starts from Missouri Street and ends at Harrison Street. The parade usually attracts a crowd of 50,000 people.

Originally there was a ban placed on candy canes at the 63rd annual Candy Cane Parade. Due to the city of Hollywood enforcing a new law that bans handing out any form of plastic east of the Intracoastal Waterways. They placed this law to reduce the amount of plastic in the oceans and protect marine life.

Even though the Candy Cane Parade is known for the candy canes hence the name Candy Cane Parade they city still wanted to go through with the ban and weren’t budging, until the city officials had a change of heart on the Wednesday before the parade and decided to take off the ban from the 63rd annual Candy Cane Parade.

Instead of the candy canes being tossed from the floats like they usually are, they were handed out to the crowd. The decision was made to excuse every Candy Cane Parade from this year and on from the ban.
