Girls Water Polo is one of the sports teams South Broward has to offer to students during the school year.

The Girl’s Water Polo team started practicing right after Winter Break and has won many of the games they played. The team is made up of mostly Seniors and Juniors, but does feature a couple of Sophomores and Freshmen. Players attend practices from 3 to 5 after school Monday through Friday and even 10:30 to 12:30 on Saturdays with games being played almost twice a week played after school. The coaches include: Coach Mark Veszi, Coach Ann Plitnick, and Coach Szonja that work hard so their players are ready to take on any team.

12th grader, Emma Leto, is the Utility player of the Water Polo team and has been playing since she was 9-years-old. Emma’s favorite thing about the Water Polo team is being able to work with the other players, and the benefits she gets from the team is having the feeling she’s actually accomplishing something due to the stress of school. Emma’s goal for Water Polo is to win states this year, and her overall experience being on the team has been: “Just straight out amazing, yeah we get into fights here and there but at the end of the day we pull ourselves together and we win the game as a team. I wouldn’t be where I am today without my team.”

10th grader, Hope Silverhardt, is the Right Wing player of the Water Polo team and joined the team due to already being on the Swim team. Hope’s favorite thing about the Water Polo team is the intensity of the games, and the benefits she gets from the team is the point that: “We’re all one so if you’re ever feeling down you know someone is always going to be there for you.” Hope’s goal for Water Polo is to get stronger and better at the game, and her experience on the team overall has been good for her.

9th grader, Sage Castle, is the Driver and Wing player of the Water Polo team and joined the team due to already being on the Swim team. Sage’s favorite thing about the Water Polo team is the adrenaline and focus you get during the game, and  the benefits she gets from the team is staying in shape and having more fun in her life. Sage’s goal for Water Polo is?: “To become a better and more technical player because I just started over the summer.” along with her experience on the team being really good so far with many of the girls and coaches teaching her many skills in Water Polo.

Water Polo is coming to end with many of the teammates having this be their last year for Water Polo, whereas others have coming years to work hard and get better progressing with the team. The 2018-2019 Water Polo team for South Broward managed to win at the district competition and are going for regional finals to see if they go to states.
