This past January, SBHS celebrated a week of talent and creativity, when it featured the work of hundreds of students in its art program. All types of art were displayed from music, to dance, to drama. There will be a film festival in our auditorium as well.

Brightly colored paintings, realistic sketches, black and white photographs, and kiln-fired sculptures were displayed by students in Ms. Shapiro and Mrs. Ostheim’s classes from 2-D studio art to AP.

“Everyone from my classes has to submit a piece of artwork they have done to be displayed and it will count for a grade as well,” said Shapiro.

Kelsey Harper 18-year -old Senior in Ostheims class submitted multiple photographs of landscapes she took herself at Glacier National Park in Montana, Grand Teton National Park and in Canada.

“I worked at Grand Teton National Park for the national park service 2 years ago, that’s how I was able to take these photos,” said Kelsey Harper.

A and B lunch were turned into a pop up performance when the marching band performed drum lines, beating out a cadence that shook the buildings of the school.

During lunches, students from the dance team dressed in bright red and gold attire. Some dancers wearing a traditional Chinese dress.

The drama club helped the dancers by carrying a red and gold 10-foot dragon.

It correlated in the auditorium with a film festival of short films made by students in the film and media club.

“Even if you’re not in this club, there is a competition where you can create your own videos and it will be judged by other schools, you will get a chance to win prizes,” said Nerissa Street.
