“Ball ball ball!” The girl yells as she reaches to catch the softball.

The SBHS girls softball team is in the middle of their season and so far, they’ve done pretty well.

So far, the girls have a win to lose ratio of 4:4. However the one game that had a big effect on the them was against Pines Charter. The girls lost 21/0. Kiara Calero, a right-fielder, had this to say about it.

“It happens sometimes.” says Calero. “If we think back to Pines Charter, we didn’t want anyone to come because we thought we would lose badly. If we had a more encouraging mindset, maybe then we could’ve had a better turnout.”

Though this took a toll on the team, they sure didn’t let it affect them. After Pines Charter they continued their hard work, knowing that it would pay off soon. With more games to go, the team is confident they can end the season on a high note.

Kayla Savoie, another outfielder on the team, is playing softball for the first time this year, however, she believes she and her teammates are doing adequately well.

“It’s my first year playing so obviously there’s some things I need to work on, but so far I’m pretty proud of where I stand.” says Savoie. “I feel that the team is working really well together. We’re communicating great and we’re listening to the coaches so everything is pretty positive.”

Despite all the hard times and bad losses, the girls have remained motivated and encouraged. How can they do this exactly? With the help of their wonderful coaches, Mr. March and Mr. Kook

“Obviously, we would prefer winning all of our games. We have played some really tough teams.” says March. “A few specific games I know we would have won but we will keep improving.
