Snapchat is No Good

Snapchat is No Good

Snapchat is a popular social media app that lets people exchange pictures and videos which we teenagers call snaps. They are meant to only last a few seconds and to disappear after people view them.

It is known as a “new type of camera” because the essential function is to take a picture or video, add filters, lenses or other effects and share them with friends.

Snapchat gives kids and teens a way to fix all their flaws by using the filters provided. A simple way to share everyday moments while simultaneously making them look awesome.

However, on this app, there is something a lot of teenagers like to use to boost our confidence, called filters. There are three types of filters, the funny one, the cute one, and the playful one. Although, today we will only be talking about the cute ones. Filters can be activated to do special things when you open your mouth or raise your eyebrows. For example, in the dog filter, when you open your mouth, a tongue will come out and lick.

You may ask yourself… How does a filter make you attractive? Filters change almost everything on your face such as eyes, lips, cheeks, nose and now even hair color. These filters make us believe we look a certain way, the way the internet sees us. These filters make us believe we have to look a certain way just to be pretty or just to be accepted in society.

“I use filters very often. I don’t feel like myself unless I use a filter,” says Susana Prisacaru.

“I use filters on a daily basis: for videos, pictures, edits, anything that you may see me in. I do not use filters to fit in with today’s world but I use them for myself, so I look pretty in my eyes,” says Ausani Taylor West.

Snapchat has so many more filters that may change certain features on our faces.

This application now has a new update where you have options such as writing over your head, making it look like you have waves, and many more you can choose from. Many people in South Broward believe that these little things define us as popular, basic, trendy, etc.

We feel the need to use them just to be accepted.

Turn a filter on and you’re flipped. Face gets thinner, your lips get plumper, and your eyes get bigger. Those are the main features that are modified and the features that most people find attractive.

Due to these modifications, most of us like to believe that we don’t look pretty naturally. We believe we need these filters, these apps to make us look pretty. There are good things into using these filters and apps, but to bring down our confidence is another thing.

We need to be nice to one another, boost up our self-confidence. We shouldn’t let our lives be controlled by these filters or let alone let people bring us down because we don’t look a certain way. Everyone is perfect in their own way and we need to help each other realize that.
