Randi Silverhardt

Randi Silverhardt is always wearing her mask. It’s part of her uniform, as she is an ER nurse in the COVID-19 unit at Memorial Hospital Pembroke.

She knows the importance of wearing a mask as she has seen many young people in the ER sick with COVID.

“Yup. I’ve seen even teenagers in the hospital on a respirator,” said Silverhardt.

Silverhardt also wears her mask to prevent her transmitting the virus to her daughter and her mother who is older.

“I’m so afraid of giving it to them, because I’ve seen how devastating the virus really is,” said Silverhardt.

When she goes out anywhere, she always makes sure to keep her mask on from the moment she gets out of her car until she gets back into her car.  Silverhardt says hand washing and hand sanitizing is probably one of the most important things people can do aside from wearing a mask to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

“I’ve scrubbed my hands raw from constantly washing them,” stated Silverhardt.

On top of wearing a high-quality mask and constantly washing and sanitizing her hands, Silverhardt always makes sure to keep at least a six-foot distance from other people when out in public to prevent the problem of COVID-19 from becoming worse.

“Some people may take it wrong that I am constantly trying to keep a six foot distance, but I just don’t want to contract the virus,” said Silverhardt.
