“Even though Chauvin was convicted, true justice is change…a change that will prevent the loss of black lives to the oppressive system of systemic racism in America,” said Malcolm.

SBHS senior Aaron Malcolm says that Derek Chauvin’s conviction may be perceived as a win but it is not justice for black Americans who have been killed by cops.

“Even though Chauvin was convicted, true justice is change…a change that will prevent the loss of black lives to the oppressive system of systemic racism in America,” said Malcolm.

If given the opportunity Malcolm would sentence Chauvin for life.

“My personal sentencing would be life in prison. Although others would say he deserves the death penalty, I believe that would be putting him out of the misery he’ll be in for the rest of his days,” says Malcolm.
