SBHS Senior Ishiah Dorest

SBHS senior Ishiah Dorest, is happy that Chauvin was given a guilty verdict. 

“As a black woman who will most likely raise a black man, Derek Chauvin being held accountable for his crime brings a smile to my face,” Dorest said.

It may have been Chauvin’s knee on George Floyd’s neck but Dorest believes that the other officers Thao, Kueng and Lane should serve just as much time as Chauvin’s.

 “The other officers should also be charged for being accomplices since they did nothing to stop something that was evidently wrong,” said Dorest.

She agrees with the idea that police should be defunded but she also believes they need to be reformed.

“Derek Chauvin is the exact reason why police should be defunded and reformed.”
