Last Tuesday, April 13th, SBHS Track and Field closed their season at Miramar Ansin Sports Complex, and although they didn’t take home the District 14 trophy, they placed third overall.

All of the events that took place were entertaining to witness. South Broward had some pretty tough competition as they took on Miramar, Western, West Broward, Nova, Cooper City , Flanagan, Cypress Bay, Everglades, and South Plantation. The heat was on.

In the discus event senior Malachi Davis placed third with a distance of 31.04m.

“I honestly believed I should have placed first but I fouled out on one of my attempts, but it is what it is.”said Davis.

But at the end of the day his placement was enough to qualify for regionals. On Friday, April 31st, at Tropical Park in Olympia Heights.

Another event that South Broward did well in was the boys 100 meter dash. Senior, Deondre Greene, placed fourth with a time of 11.20 seconds, which also qualified him for the regionals track meet.

But the 100 meter dash wasn’t the only event that Deondre excelled in; he also placed fourth in the 200 meter with a time of 22.79 seconds. He also qualified for regionals in this event as well.

“Although I didn’t place where I wanted, I know I just have to practice harder and I will get to where I want to at regionals.” said Greene.

In the 400 meter lap South Broward senior Elijah Taylor placed third with a time of 51.71, which also put him in the position to compete at the regionals track meet.

By far the 400 meter dash was the most difficult race ran as there were many great runners.

“Although this wasn’t my best performance of the year, I still pushed through and qualified, but there’s still work that needs to be done.” said Taylor.

In the 4×400 Relay South Broward seniors; Cameron Jones, Elijah Taylor, Deondre Greene, and Ronaldo Chery placed second with a time of 3.31.14, which put them in a great position for the regionals track meet . This relay squad still placed great although they didn’t have their regular relay lineup.

“Although this wasn’t the regular 4×400 lineup we still went out there and placed, now on to regionals.”said Chery.

“Come April 30th we have a lot to prove, our expectations and goals will be met.”said Davis.
