All I Want for Christmas is: A Cure
Dianna Colabella usually keeps a simple Christmas list filled with things such as perfume or scented candles. What does she want for Christmas this year? A vaccine.
“Usually, my Christmas list is always basic things I could get from Target,” said Colabella. “But this wish is a bit harder to get.”
Dianna Colabella is a nurse at the University of Miami, and she has kept up a busy schedule dealing with regular cases and COVID cases.
“A vaccine would allow people to start going back to their normal lives,” said Colabella. “That sounds pretty good to me.”
Colabella has been offered to get the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine due to her line of work. Although the vaccine is still optional, she wants to take it to keep herself, and her family safe.
“Being around COVID patients at work always makes me worried for my family at home,” said Colabella. “If I get the vaccination I won’t have to stress as much for me or my family during the holidays.”
Not to mention, if someone has decided to decline the use of the vaccination until further notice, it could be a long time until they are offered it again due to high demand.
“It could be months until the average person is offered the vaccine and I’m grateful that I can receive it sometime this week,” said Colabella, “I wish for everyone to have the opportunity to get it so we can all be stress-free this season.”
One of Colabella’s tasks as being a nurse is talking with the families of the patients in the hospital.
“It’s upsetting to see that patients’ family members can’t see them before they go into the hospital room,” said Colabella. “Especially during times like these, families just want to be together and the vaccine can help that.”
Even though Colabella is an advocate of the vaccine, there still will be people who don’t wish to get it. She says if people keep their masks on and social distance everyone will be okay.
“I wish for a cure, but I still hope my family gets me some chocolates or something sweet for Christmas,” said Colabella with a laugh.
