Justin Fernandez – The slap

Justin Fernandez is a sophomore at South Broward High School who thinks that Will Smith was absolutely wrong to slap Chris Rock in front of a lot of celebrities at the oscars. He thinks Rock was just doing his job.

 “I definitely think it was wrong and unnecessary,”said Fernandez”.It  it was a big event and there were a lot of celebrities and Christ Rock is mainly known for making people laugh, so in my opinion there’s  no reason to slap Chris Rock,” said Fernandez. 

He thinks that although Rock may have  provoked Smith to slap him because he made a terrible joke about his wife who has alopecia, a disease that causes her to lose her hair, he thinks they were both to blame.

“To be honest they both had faults because Will Smith has been through a lot.  He’s been through cheating, so I think Rock shouldn’t have made a joke like that”, said Fernandez.

He didn’t watch the Oscars. Instead, he saw the slap as he was scrolling through Tik tok. He was shocked but also though it was funny. 

“My first reaction was obviously surprising but at the same time I was laughing a little bit because the video was edited with memes”, said Fernandez. 

He thinks it might have been  better for Jada Smith  to slap Rock, since Rock made the joke about her. 

“If you think about it it could  have been even better “Said Fernandez “ Because of the slap Will Smith got into a lot of trouble and he could have ended up in jail”, said Fernandez. 

He thinks that Smith could’ve waited until after the ceremony was over to talk to Rock, and thinks that it was Jada’s fault he got in trouble, because she sent him the message that he needed to stand up for her.
