Photo Challenge: Macro
Bulldog Bark Staff, Administrator
This semester our staff will take on several themed photo challenges. This week, the “macro challenge” will zoom in on a small detail of our everyday lives.
Feline emotional support
Quarantine has been hard for everyone no matter what age. Some people have been feeling extra lonely because of the lack of human contact. I personally have been feeling this way. For the many months that my Mother and I have been quarantining we have had our furry friends keeping us company. Even though they sleep all day, knowing that they are there is comforting.
Blossoming Flowers
Since August, I have been doing online school in my bedroom, and right outside my window is this huge plant. It is called a Clerodendron Quadriloculare, Every morning I wake up and look out my window, see this big plant and it brings a sense of comfort. When ever I see any of these plants anywhere I think of home, the warmth of my room. When school started it was just a small bush, and now its grown...
Colorful Ink
Nothing's better than putting your ideas onto paper. You can create anything you want. These markers are the objects i use the most to express my emotions, and create art. During this quarantine I have had a lot of ideas and unresolved feelings. Using these markers is how i show said emotions without actually having to explain them. Each color can mean a different thing. Each marker just as special...
paint jars
These are just a handful of the paints I've been using for my paintings. Over the pandemic, I've decided that I was going to practice and hone in on my art. I have been painting for many years I haven't gotten the chance to focus on practicing weeks before the pandemic started, so I'm glad that I finally have at least an hour everyday to practice.
Leopard Gecko
After begging my parents for a reptile, I was able to get one the day before my birthday back in August. He's a Leopard gecko and I'm a Leo, so I decided to named him Leo. I thought it would be simple and cute. He's very shy and skittish when new people come around. The photo shows Leo getting ready to come out of his cave because he know it's almost feeding time.
Blastoise
From the moment I wake up, Blastoise protects me. His skills are effortless. His motions are undetected. He sees everything. From dusk till dawn, he stands guard. He shows up and does his job every single day. He's trouble's worst nightmare. But most importantly, he's my best friend.
Wallet
This wallet was my grandfathers that passed away a while ago. I didn't have much of his stuff, but I have that wallet it make me think about him and bring up memories we shared together. There was a point were I lived with him for a year, and I learned so much from him and learned so much about him.
Mechanical Keyboard
This is the mechanical keyboard that I have customized myself for the past year. During the pandemic, I've taken my mind off of stress through tweaking my keyboard to have special lighting effects that make me feel calmer. To some people, this keyboard may seem too luxurious and over the top. To me, however, this keyboard's soothing clicks, feel, and colored lighting effects make me feel happy. The...
The Beauty of Hair
As a 16-year-old girl still exploring life, I've found that my hair plays a big part in my growth. After the horrendous actions 14-year-old me did to my hair, I had to do a big chop and let my hair regrow into a healthy state. I was so ashamed I would wear bonnets or turbans to cover it up. I have 4c hair which is a little harder for me to maintain, so in order to keep my hair healthy, I have to...
Keyboard
This is my GK61 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard. I got this keyboard because it is suppose to be the fastest keyboard for gaming. I use this keyboard to play games like Fotnite and other games and most of the time I just use it for school because my laptop keyboard is comfortable. I enjoy using this keyboard and it was definitely worth it for a 60$ keyboard.
Notepads
These are my notepads that I use everyday I use for my classes to write down homework, answers, and any questions I have and sometimes I like to write ideas or jokes and put them on my wall. This is my everyday thing it usually distracts me especially when I'm bored.
Candle
It can't get any better than the aroma of the sweet smelling wax melting around the burning wick. From afar, it is just a flame; but up close, the scent of balmy lavender-vanilla swirls within the once cool air. The melting wax creates an engulfing feeling of cozying up on the couch, admiring the warmth of the flickering flame beside you.
Paint Days
We all have our days that are just filled with stress and frustration, and we all have our different ways of relieving that stress. As for me I love to paint. I haven't been doing it for long, and I'm not very good at it, but to me I find it very therapeutic and that's my stress reliever.
Japanese Phrasebook
It has always been a dream of mine to visit Japan, because of this for the past year I have been doing my best to learn the language, and while I have had plenty of time to learn it is still very difficult. Each day I try to learn a phrase in this book as it has plenty of material to learn from. Once I am able to finish this phrasebook (Along with other things) I plan to visit Japan!
Dryer Sheets
These dryer sheets have been used in my household for as long as I can remember. They hold a dear place in my heart because they are the reason why all my clothes and sheets smell extra marvelous. There is honestly just something about pulling out a fresh white tee that is warm and smells like soap. It just brings a smile to my face.
Meows
This photo shows my quarantine friend. With my parents always at work during the school day, my cat has always kept me company. Whether my cat is sleeping on my bed or crying for food, I would not want anyone or anything else by my side. My cat always cheers me up and brings light into my day. ...
Polaroid
This is my instax mini 75 polaroid camera. I received it as a Christmas gift about a year ago, and it helps me create memories that I can physically hold in my hands. I personally prefer physical photos over digital photos. I love the retro feel that polaroid photos give off. I use my polaroid every time my best friend comes over and put the photos in a decorated box for safe keeping.
Amethyst Love
On Christmas day 2018, I read a book about crystals and Earth stones. Flipping through the book, I came across a specific crystal that intrigued my curiosity. There were many other crystals that were nice but something about this crystal caught my attention. The name of the crystal was amethyst. Crystals hold certain energies and healing powers. This crystal is a common crystal with a purple/lavender...
A Painting Can Have Many Meanings
I've been painting more when quarantine started. I've been painting since I was little and getting back to it feels nice. I stopped painting when I first turned 11, so lately the paintings I've been making have been creative. This painting, it's going to show more than words can tell.
Crayon Love
Ever since school started, I gotten to love coloring. I am not an expert at it, but it's something that helps me relax. This type of activity is my stress reliever. I normally, draw after school or in my free times. Sometimes, I do random patterns. I also like doing those patterns with the rainbow colors because it looks really good.
Rolls Royce
Rolls Royces has been around since 1904. That's exactly ninety-nine years before my birth. As a senior, who has recently found a balance between working and going to school. saving up for a car is a goal that I hope to achieve very soon. I’ve been driving for since sophomore year, but I have never owned a vehicle of my own before. Knowing that everyday I work goes towards something that is so meaningful...
Hello Kitty
This is my hello kitty clock. It gets hard to stay up during my classes, so I use the clock as a way to remind myself that school is in session. Sometimes, I like to play a game where I see if I can complete all of my homework before the little hand touches the bow. I haven’t beaten the game yet.
Caracol
A betta fish has become my best friend. On my birthday, September 5th, a very good friend of mine gave me a boy betta fish as a gift. I named him Caracol. "Caracol" is Spanish for seashell. I've had an attachment to the ocean all my life. Seashells to me symbolizes fragility and peace. A simple pet has brought so much meaning into my life. I have learned to value life in its purest form, even from...
Funko Pops
About a few months ago, I decided it would be fun to start a collection of something. The first thing that came to my head: Funko Pops. They have a wide range of collectibles coming in many different sizes. Expanding my collection is something I wanna keep doing. The one in the middle is one I recently got for Christmas and the one on the left is one i got in November. About now i'd say I have about...
Luna Love
After our 14-year-old Labrador, Nyla, died in August, and because we were all home due to the pandemic, our family got a new Dobberman puppy. We named her Luna. Dobberman's are a challenging breed. She's skittish, barks a lot, chews things, play-fights with our other dog, Rocky, and can leap over our couch in a single bound. But, she's also a love. So is my daughter, Marley. This photo of them snuggling...
