Sarah Rahaman is a 14-year-old freshman at South Broward High School and a proud New Yorker.

Although reluctant to move here a few years ago, she has managed to find some positives in the sunshine state. Her favorite pastime is hanging out at the beach with her friends, and said it’s better than staying home alone. 

Rahaman values her friends a lot, and said whenever they fight it makes her more anxious than she’d like to admit. 

“My house is boring, and the beach helps me take my mind off problems in my life,” Rahaman said.

She says it bothers her when her parents compare her to her older sister, so she actively tries to remind herself that no single person is better than another. 

“I have a problem with getting defensive when I receive criticism,” she said.

Although she acknowledges she isn’t always perfect, she revealed she thinks very highly of herself.

“I think it’s important to love yourself more than anyone else,” she said.
