Selena Salmeron

Selena Salmeron is a 17-year-old senior at South Broward High School. She is someone that values life and safety above all else. She urges everyone to wear their masks outside their homes.

“I feel as it is the only way to stay safe,” says Salmeron, “I’ve had family members get sick before and I wouldn’t want to risk the same thing happening to me.”

Salmeron wears her mask anywhere that isn’t her house, from the first step out to the first step back in. It gives her a sense of security. She takes not wearing a mask as seriously as a crime. Salmeron’s family makes sure they are well equipped with a mask before they even think about exiting their home.

Salmeron is hopeful yet skeptical about the future.

“Honestly, I think it will be 6 months before we can walk around without any covering,” Salmeron said with a grin on her face. “That is if the citizens of the United States get their act together and cooperate while there is still time!”

Her favorite mask has a shark design on it.

“It was gifted to me by my sister, and it’s extremely cute and comfortable,” she said.

When asked about her interactions with people after integrating a mask into her life, Salmeron replied with a comfortable answer.

“I tend to keep a distance from people, and I don’t even walk in the direction of those who don’t wear one. A simple hello from afar gets the job done for my friends and I,” said Salmeron.
