Storming the Capitol: Right or Wrong?
South Broward High School freshman, Aspen Roberts, has a very interesting perspective on the Capitol storming.
“I believe that storming the capitol was very wrong and they are being irrational because they didn’t get their way in this election,” says Roberts. ]
Roberts finds it disturbing that people raided the Capitol without reasoning.
“No, they definitely do not have the right to do so. These people shouldn’t have been able to make it on Capitol grounds,” says Roberts, “It was very wrong and they did it for no reason.”
She believes that the Trump supporters acted unfairly, as they disagreed with prior protests but felt it was okay to riot at the Capitol.
“Trump supporters are biased, they were saying that cop lives matter but were beating them up, they should all be in jail. They were also saying it was wrong for BLM to protest but then did this riot,” says Roberts, “Trump was definitely a part of this, he was seen on the news the same morning saying that it wasn’t over and they needed to go to the capitol and get their point across.”
Robert thinks that the riot at the Capitol was very different than the Black Lives Matter protests that occurred prior. She feels as if the BLM protests resulted in more violence than the Capitol storming.
“At this riot at the capitol, it wasn’t as escalated as all the BLM protests were, if this had anything to do with BLM or had a majority of minorities in the crowd it would’ve been dealt with way differently,” she says, “At the BLM protest many people were hurt, beat, shot, and put in jail but at the capitol storming there was very few of that.”
