Most people don’t think parking cars is a dangerous job. However, Carlos Rodriguez does.

Rodriguez is a valet in downtown Hollywood. He feels like he’s risking his health every time a maskless driver hands him the keys to their car.

“People look at me funny when I tell them to keep their mask on. I’m just trying to do my job,” said  Rodriguez.

Since he’s had it already, he knows how easily it spreads.

“As a survivor from COVID, I know the specific precautions you are supposed to take,” he said, “so I try to spread as much awareness as often as I can.”

In early May or late June, he was infected with COVID. It took him eight weeks to recover. He said that he experienced most of the symptoms.

“I am very scared for everyone who doesn’t take care of themself,” said Rodriguez.

What he went through really opened his eyes, to the importance of wearing a mask. His aunt makes homemade masks with a sewing machine for him. He’s got quite a collection.

“I have masks for every outfit,” he said.

Even though he is no longer infected, he still wears a mask.

“I wear a mask at all times, except if I am around family and friends,” Rodriguez said.

Although he doesn’t touch or hug anyone he doesn’t know, he’s not completely unsocial.

“I still go to the beach very often though, that is something that I won’t refrain from doing,” he said.
