Stephanie Manucha, a freshman at South Broward High School, used to communicate with her friends by talking, texting, or Instagram. However, these days she is using a different way to communicate, her eyes.

“Even though I have half of my face covered, I can communicate my emotions with my eyes which is something I didn’t do often, until the pandemic,” she said.

Manucha finds herself making more eye contact with people. Although it is easy for her to adapt to this change, she does find it a bit awkward sometimes when it comes to strangers.

“It’s hard to predict what someone is thinking based on only their eyes,” she said, “to come up with a better assumption, you’d need more facial features than just the eyes.”

She says that although wearing a mask can be uncomfortable at times, it can help protect the ones we love and others that are around us.

“I don’t just wear a mask for other people’s sake, but for mine as well,” she said, “wearing a mask although can be a struggle at times, it can protect me and it lowers the case numbers.”

Although Manucha doesn’t like the fact that she has to wear a mask she is happy that she is somehow contributing to lowering the COVID cases in Florida 

“If it’s for a good cause count me in, the only way we can surpass this is to work together and wear a mask,” said Manucha.
