Trump and The Capital Riot
My dad usually watches the news every morning and this time it was about Donald Trump supporters that broke into the capital. They were attempting to overturn his defeat in the 2020 presidential election, which obviously didn’t work.
Even though I don’t really like Trump or his supporters they are not like the news portrays them. I know that the ones who went to the capital are crazy because no sane person would actually attempt to break into the capital.
In the New York Times, I saw people hitting policemen with American flag poles, which really shocked me. I thought they were all about blue lives matter but now they are beating the police they said to protect. On one of the videos, I saw some of them were even trying to side with the police saying they wanted the same thing and to let them through.
They hit the police with fire extinguishers, flag poles, baseball bats, and spit in their face. I was looking through the New York Times and saw that one of the officers was crushed and screamed for help.
It just really shocked me how rash they were towards the police, instead of a peaceful riot it turned into something way more out of hand. My dad, who doesn’t like Trump but supports some of the things he has done, said that he has gone too far and I agree with him.
On BBC news Trump says, “black lives matter is a symbol of hate”. But I think they are not only doing an act of hate, but they are also doing worse things than BLM. Trump supporters are contradicting themselves by attacking the police.

I agree with that but in this situation, it wasn’t taken as a figure of speech because look at what he caused. Impeachment is definitely the right thing to do. Also, in the impeachment trials, Trump said multiple times to fight, and he had spent months preparing his supporters to attack online and not fake threats.
I think it’s scary to think we could have had a president with that type of mindset, when he doesn’t get what he wants he blames it on other people and says the election was stolen from him.
The rioters were attacking the police and breaking things. Beating the police with poles, and anything in their possession. On USA Today, “the president asked people to come and show their support”, said an accused rioter.
This isn’t how they all act. Most Trump supporters don’t commit acts of violence and are polite but that is most of them. I don’t think it was right but, even though I don’t agree with Trump it doesn’t mean I should base what happened at the riot on how all Trump supporters are. So even though they did break into the capital, I think they are not all like this and the ones who didn’t do anything violent are good people.
