Bottle Rocket Launch Study

Sam Price

A rocket built by a student in Mr. Herrera’s science class blasts off at the football field.

The sky was full of flying soda bottles released by Mr Herrara’s class on September 28th. They were studying motion, recording how far a rocket got.

“The bottle rockets were a good physical and conceptual model” said Mr.Herrera.

The class made the bottle rocket by using two empty 2-liter soda bottles and adding pieces of cardboard on the sides cut like wings. They filled the bottles with vinegar and put a small pouch of baking soda into them, put the rocket on a stand with a hole, pumped air into it, and watched their plastic rocket blastoff. The height the rockets is affected by the amount of vinegar and baking soda put into them.

The best results was a rocket that reached a height 36 meters in 7.2 seconds.
