Broward Wants To Start School Year Earlier
December 6, 2017
Broward Schools made a great announcement for parents on Tuesday, December 5th. The 2018-2019 school year’s summer vacation will be trimmed by six days. “This is a vote that I can guarantee will not make everyone happy, and I wish we could,” stated the board’s new vice-chairwoman, Lee Hill member Amanda Blalock.
The new school year and this includes winter, spring, and thanksgiving breaks to be shortened. Students are concerned and not pleased by this change because school is already long enough, and they want to make it even lengthier.
This also includes the following breaks:
- THANKSGIVING: Wednesday, Nov. 21 – Friday, Nov. 23
- WINTER: Monday, Dec. 24 – Friday, Jan. 4
- SPRING: Monday, March 25 – Friday, March 29
This new schedule can affect the students of Broward Schools in many ways. The students may need more time to have their mindsets ready for a new grade, teacher, friends, and maybe even a new school!

How is this a good thing? Summer is supposed to a time when students (especially high school) can relax and get ready for another year. This only stresses students out; It doesn’t calm them down.
