With a captivating display of creativity and hard work, South Broward’s National Art Honor Society has captured a deep homage to Hollywood’s vibrant past with their newest art exhibition. Blending in paintings, sculptures, and photographs, the exhibition is focused on taking its viewers through a Time Machine and showcasing the city’s rich history. The exhibition truly conveys the essence of Hollywood’s evolution from being a sun-kissed beach town to a bustling cultural city.
The art exhibition was an idea brought by NAHS director Jennifer Shapiro with the help of the Hollywood Historical Society to ensure that future generations is able to carry out the history throughout decades.
”This generation isn’t aware of how beautiful Hollywood’s culture is and we want to make them aware of it,” said Shapiro
With the help of NAHS students, Shapiro was able to highlight the Hollywood’s unique architecture, development, and communities. Yara Ascencio, a sophomore and contributor of the art society for two years talks about her art piece “Joseph Wesley Young”
“I like to draw portraits a lot and seeing one of the many faces people don’t know about so I thought it would be best to show people what the founder of the city I grew up in looked like,” said Ascencio.
Ascencio created more than six sketches in the span of a week in order to truly express Joseph Young’s significance and a feeling of nostalgia.
Joseph Young was a key factor in making this exhibition as “He created the paradise our ancestors grew up in and passed down to us” according to Daniel Bonnet, co-director of NAHS.
A diverse range of other multimedia pieces were displayed throughout the exhibition. From street blueprints to old dance halls for beauty pageants, The event invites visitors to reflect on the magnificent of the beloved city sitting on Florida’s east coast.
