Bruce Willis.Dakota Fanning. Meryl Streep. Rosie O’Donnell. What do these people all have in common? They were crowned Homecoming winners and have successful careers in the entertainment industry. This year, seven SBHS students will have the same opportunity to be crowned Homecoming Queen or King.

Homecoming is a traditional event that occurs in most High schools and has been very controversial because the whole election system is based on popularity scale. South Broward has their own homecoming event coming up, meet the some nominees: Ariana Singh, Darian Ruiz, and Thomas Gerdak.

Ariana Singh is currently running for Homecoming queen, What convinced her to run was one day a few members of her cheer team brought the race to her attention, she then decided to just “go for it”.  This is her third year in SBHS and is grateful for her time here, especially because she’s the co-captain of her cheer team. Her strategy for promotion was to print out flyers and handout treats. Even though she is running for homecoming queen she doesn’t plan to attend the actual homecoming event just the game.

”If I where to be any animal i would be a wolf because they are loyal to there pack and magnificent creatures.” Said Ariana.

Darian Ruiz  is a  high school senior originally from Cuba but resides in Florida. He is running for homecoming king for the 2018-2019 school year. He thinks he has a good chance of winning because he knows a lot of people in school,  however he wouldn’t be upset if he looses. He describes his best quality as being blunt, he isn’t afraid to tell people whats on his mind. His friends encouraged him to run.His parents are very supportive of him running also.

Thomas Gerdak is a 17 year old high school senior from Hollywood Florida. He is running for homecoming king for the 2018-2019 school year. He wants to run because it is his last year at South Broward and he wants to be remembered the upcoming school years. He feels like running will make his homecoming experience better. His parents are very supportive of him running. Thomas thinks he has a good chance of winning because he is very well known in school and people enjoy his presence. He describes his best quality as his personality.

When asked about his philosophy on life Thomas said ”Live life the way others won’t live it.”

Whoever wins, will be very happy. And who knows, this could be the start of their careers in entertainment.
