International Women’s Day
March 8, 2018
Today, March 8th, marks International Women’s Day. Women all over the world are striking in order to bring awareness to gender inequality.
International Women’s Day began in 1908 when 15,000 women marched the streets of New York City demanding shorter work hours and higher pay. A year after this protest, the day became International Women’s Day.
Today protests for women’s rights continue. In Spain, women have stopped working and have begun a 24-hour strike. “Hundreds of marches with the slogan ‘if we stop, the world stops’ are planned.” says BBC News.
Along with Spain, women in Rome are participating in strikes of their own. All these women are coming together to fix working conditions regarding gender inequality.
