Is Minimum Wage Enough?
March 21, 2018
Minimum wage is the lowest amount of money that you can pay a worker in labor, and it varies in different states. Some people argue that its way too high, and others think that it’s not enough to put food on the table. Minimum wage has been an issue in our nation ever since the Great Depression.
Right now, with the minimum wage is so low it increases the Wage Gap between the poor and the rich. The saying goes “the rich get richer and the poor get poorer,” and minimum wage might have contributed to this problem. Companies nowadays aren’t giving their workers enough money to support themselves.
I have interviewed multiple individuals and asked them what they thought about minimum wage. “Dude, I don’t think you can live off of minimum wage,” said Steven, a senior at South Broward High School. He also said that they should increase the hourly salary to at least 10 dollars an hour. He doesn’t agree on what it is now. There are more people like Steven who want to receive more for their work.
Minimum wage is a problem in the United States. People can’t live on income on what they receive now. This must be adjusted so people can live on minimum wage and stabilize the economy.
