February 24, 2020
On Monday, January 20 at 10:00 am, South Broward High School Jrotc students marched along Dania Beach dressed in their uniforms followed by the marching band to honor the birthdate of Martin Luther King Jr. The 116 students marched 2.5 miles around Dania Beach lead by Chief Eagle-spirit and Sergeant George.
“It was a huge turnout,” said Chief Eagle-Spirit
The parade is done yearly, and it is the first time Chief Eagle-spirit participated with the bulldog battalion.
“For my first Martin Luther King Jr. march with the battalion, it turned out well,” he said.
The event had been planned since last year according to Chief Eagle-spirit. Although the students marched exceptionally well, Sergeant George thinks that there is a lot they can improve on.
“We conduct after mission reports to review and reflect on the events that transpired,” said George. “There are still some things that the cadets can improve on”.
The bulldogs had been participating in the MLK march for 10 years, always starting in the same place C.W Thomas Park on Dania Beach.
Jenna Ochs a freshman Jrotc cadet who participated in the march said that she enjoyed herself and it was a new experience for her.
“I was very excited for the march on Monday,” said Ochs “It was going to be something new for me”.
Cadet First Sergeant of the Delta company, Faith Agustin also participated in the march along with the Company Commander Line Prophet.
“I am very proud of my company,” said Agustin, “They performed extremely well despite being the least experienced group there”.
Kelly Bey, a spectator who witnessed the march claims that it was very satisfying viewing the cadets march in sync with all the cadences being called out.
“The movements were so smooth and in sync,” said Bey “It was extremely satisfying to watch”.
