The annual age-adjusted suicide rate is 13.42 per 100,000 individuals. Men die by suicide 3.53 times, more often than women. On average, there are 123 suicides per day. White males accounted for 7 of 10 suicides in 2016. Christopher Erahm began his journey to try to change this and one of the way was presented to SBHS students on Wednesday, February 7th by showing us his new Hollywood movie, “Listen”.

SBHS students got split up into two groups to watch the movie. Half of the school was in the auditorium, and the other half was in the gym. The director of the movie, Erahm Christopher, came in after the movie was done and asked us questions.

The movie is about teens who struggle with personal problems, and turn suicidal. Different people watching the movie felt different emotions. For example, there was some students crying, and others weren’t. “The saddest part of the movie was when the dog died”, said Melina Soto, a freshman at South Broward. A lot of other students agreed with Melina while others didn’t. “The movie was really sad but I didn’t cry”, said Monique Jackson, another freshman at South Broward.

Overall, a lot of students and teachers enjoyed the movie. When the movie was done, several students went up to the director and greeted him. Students then shared their opinions on the movie with the director. The moral of the story is that it takes 7 seconds for someone to judge a person, but you don’t know what someone goes through everyday. However you are feeling, there will always be somebody you can talk to and get help.
