Ms. Rolle’s Many Roles

Coach Rolle demonstrates her passion and commitment, rallying the team with energetic shouts.

Do you think you could take responsibility for one thousand roles? Well, Valarie Rolle at South Broward High School proves anything is possible. Rolle is in charge of six wonderful roles! She teaches 2 AICE classes which are AICE International History and AICE Global Perspective. She took charge of being head coach of both varsity and JV volleyball teams. She also is in charge of three after school clubs! They are, Plastic Free Mermaids Club, Social Studies Honor Society, and the Black Student Union (BSU).

Rolle teaches two advanced AICE classes, SBHS sophomore Angelina Romero is a student in Rolle’s AICE international history class. Romero explained that Rolle believes that she manages her responsibilities well and is always on point and has a layout of the day.

“She is very sincere about what she does, and considerate because she understands things happen outside of school and you can’t always turn assignments in on time,” Said Romero.

SBHS sophomore Piper Wilson is a volleyball player on Rolle’s team, She played as a freshman on last year’s varsity team, under Coach Mark. Having a new coach is a hard adjustment, But, Rolle made it comfortable for everyone.

Before Rolle started as a coach in this year’s season, Coach Mark was in charge and coached at South Broward. Wilson says that playing on Ms. Rolle’s team has impacted her in many ways, it has taught her a lot of life lessons.

“ It has taught me to quickly adjust to new situations and to make the best of stressful situations,” Wilson said.

Fellow SBHS history teacher Ismael Cierra, Rolle and Cierra have worked together for six years. Cierra thinks Rolle is not only a good teacher, She’s a good mother. Cierra admitted he probably could handle as many roles as her but he is not at that point in life yet mentally.

On a certain level her motherly dedication is evident through the many roles she takes on at school. All the clubs, coaching, and teaching adds up to hours of selfless dedication. How does she do it all? Love.

“Make sure you love what you are doing and save time for yourself,” Said Rolle.

Ariyanna Stanley, Editor

Ariyanna Stanley is a 14-year-old Freshman at South Broward High School. She was born and raised in North Miami but moved to Dania Beach around four to five years old. She loves to cheer and writing. Her favorite movie series are Twilight and Harry Potter. She has three sisters and four brothers. She loves to spend money and stay in her own personal space binge watching movies. “I want to travel a lot when I get older. I want to go on a world round adventure just exploring new things and eating random foods” she said. Stanley loves to hang out with friends and family, but also likes her alone time too. “I like to go out with my family because they’ll probably buy me stuff, and I just have random days when I want to be outside,” said Stanley. But writing is what comes easiest to her. “I can write about whatever I want and it's just for me,” said Stanley.

Saarah Juman-Welch, Photographer

Saarah Juman-Welch is a 17 year old Junior at SBHS. Born in Indiana, Juman-Welch moved to Florida at the age of four, first living in Davie, then coming to Hollywood. Her hobby since sixth grade has been sports photography, and thanks to journalism, she has expanded to nature photography. “I never struggled with photography; it just comes naturally,” said Juman-Welch. Despite this, Juman-Welch still chose journalism in hopes of improving her photography skills. Outside of photography, Juman-Welch enjoys baking for her friends and family. Her favorite desserts to make are baklava and brownies. “When I’m in the kitchen, I feel like I can just let go and make what my heart desires,” said Juman-Welch. Her goals for the year are to save money to buy her own camera and win at least one All-State award at the FSPA State Convention. “This year, I hope we can attend the actual state convention and not just submit our entries online,” stated Juman-Welch.
