Science Olympiad 2022
May 25, 2022
Science Olympiad is an American team competition in which students compete in 23 events pertaining to various fields of science, including earth science, biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering. Over 7,800 middle school and high school teams from 50 U.S. states compete each year.
There are multiple levels of competition: invitational, regional, state, and national. Invitational tournaments, run by high schools and universities, are unofficial tournaments and serve as practice for regional and state competitions.
Winners later receive several kinds of awards, including medals, trophies and plaques, as well as scholarships.
On Saturday of January 18th, 23 SBHS students participated in a national student science competition. South Broward High School Students achieved 7th place, winning 10 metals against ten teams with a possible chance of going to states. The SBHS team went against many rough opponents that came from various different private schools and science tech schools.
“Despite going against top-notch schools we did a pretty good job coming in 7th place,” said the team’s advisor, Mr. Jeffrey Scudder.
