Social Media’s Impact On Teens
Social Media has made a huge impact on teens
November 14, 2017
Hello my name is Ryazia Allen and I’m a Social-media-holic. I use Snapchat, Instagram, and Youtube daily. I cannot see myself going a day without these apps.
Social media are websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking. Social media is distracting and it’s causing teens to stay hooked to their phones, rather than having a decent conversation.
How many hours are teens spending on social media? Based on a study from The Family Technology Education, teens are spending more than one-third of their days using media such as online video or music — nearly nine hours on average. With those nine hours, 540 minutes, 32,000 seconds, teens could be hanging out at a coffee shop catching up with friends or studying for an upcoming test.
Girls we gotta do better, based on a survey from Common Sense Media found that we are on social media more than our male counterparts.
Already being a teenage girl is hard and social media is causing that to be harder. According to a Common Sense Media, ” About half the girls polled admitted that content posted online often makes them worry about their appearance or social status.”
Lets face facts ladies seeing these perfect perky Instagram models down your timeline has made you second guess your own appearance at least once.
Its not just with the girls boys you have some problems with this too. Based on an poll from Pewinternet.org, similar to the percentage of teens who feel pressure to post content that makes them look good, 39% of teens on social media say they feel pressure to post content that will be popular and get lots of comments or likes.
There’s even apps that lets you gain more likes by buying them. Are we really that desperate for a few more likes? To waste hard earn money for a few more numbers.
Social Media is also causing trouble in teens lives. According to a nationwide survey by the National Campaign, a shocking 20 percent of teens are participating in sexting.
Sexting is against the law and is humiliating. I’m positive if a teen gets their nudes leaked their gonna be embarrassed.
Social Media is making a huge impact on us teens lives and it could be stopped if we just put the phone down.

Phones aren’t really needed, but they are useful…very.

So, first of all I think that teens spending time on their phone does not need to stop. If all of our work is computer based why not have what we study be on a computer too, doesn’t that make sense? I believe that as long as our friends are happy and our school work is good/completed it should be fine. There should be a compromise of us teens not losing our phones. Second, I think that only having a one sided opinion in this article about how our phones are bad is not a strong argument. Plus, your supporting facts are easy to argue with when this argument is applied to cell phones. If you were going to rewrite this article, I recommend getting opinions from both sides and providing counter arguments or even examples of what we should do if our phones will not be used all the time.

Teenagers are controlled by social media because much of our lives and status are defined by who we are on social media. Our phones are our the gateway to much of our stimulation and social interaction. Even technology is the new way of working and new job opportunities are formed through the cell phone.
Kevin Perez • Nov 29, 2017 at 2:20 pm
Teenagers have to create a balance when they use technology because as we all know it has change lives for better and worse. Some teenagers have learned how to balance their lives and use it wisely to lead a successful life. The purpose of technology is to discover new things and use them in positive way but still keep physical interaction to establish a connection.

I do agree that the amount of time teens spend on phone usage is a bit much but, saying that we should be out with friends rather than on the phone; I disagree with. Not all teens (especially pre-teens) have much opportunities to go out. I also like the fact that us teens can connect very easily throughout social media. As long as we follow the guidelines of the applications, I believe that everyone can have fun and happy times whilst using these forms of social media.

I think that social media isn’t good for the human brain. My reason is because kid these days can be hours on their Cellular device, and its not healthy for their brain.
Its bad for their eye site and it also holds them from expressing them self’s in person.
Everyone likes to be on their phone but they shouldn’t be on it for 4 hours straight.
Brandon Caceres • Nov 29, 2017 at 2:09 pm
social media can help people connect with each other

I personally think that social media and our phones are becoming an addiction to us. It’s taking away family time and time for outdoor activities or spending time with our friends or people. If we don’t have our phones with us, we basically feel empty and away from the world. It’s also creating problems for our eyes due to being 24/7 in our phones, by 2020 more than 70% will need either glasses or eye surgery.

I think teens are spending way too much time on Social Media. Instead of staring at a screen for hours on end, teens can go out and hang out with their friends. On the other hand, teens use social media platforms as a way to communicate with their friends and relatives.
Daniel Labanda • Nov 29, 2017 at 2:00 pm
Social media is not just a bad thing, it’s actually a good thing. Social media creates a platform for you the individual where you can express and be as creative as you want. You can use social media as a personal gain and build a business with it. I’ve personally have a business throughout social media where I post things or sent thing via direct messages of what I have so my buyers can buy my products. I’ve made so much profit throughout social media and learned strategical method while using it. Though social media can be a distraction, many teens can use the platform for the better good.
Alonleoreid • Nov 29, 2017 at 1:48 pm
social media can help get people over talking to people in the real world.
Manaya • Nov 29, 2017 at 1:42 pm
Social media has consumed the lives of teens. It prevents real life socializing and pressures teens into imitating the life of others in order to fit in.
Hector • Nov 29, 2017 at 1:39 pm
I think the social is telling the right things that kids be on social more then pay attention to they come work and class work even some time they don’t even finish the home work or class work so I agree with social.
holiday inn • Nov 29, 2017 at 1:35 pm
I think that social media has to be stop for a little while because people need to expend sometime with their friends or families.
Kellie Christnagel • Nov 29, 2017 at 1:31 pm
i agree that we are all attached to our phones, i honestly didn’t know that it was that high of a percent of girls on their phone. that just opens my eyes because i am always on my phone. all in all, what a great article.

Social media has it’s pro’s and con’s. It all just depends on what you do.
persichamorro • Nov 29, 2017 at 1:29 pm
I think using phones are good for work and whatever u do on our phone can wait after school
Desley Perez • Nov 29, 2017 at 1:28 pm
I totally agree with you. (I edited this story for you lol.) But yes, this is what our society has came to and its sad but no matter what we say theirs nothing we can really do about it but bring awareness. Amazing story 🙂

Social media is what keeps teens from being bored all the time. Without social media most teens pretty much wouldn’t do anything all day. Social media is what keeps most friends communicating all the time. Social media is neither a good thing or a bad thing because it can keep you from doing outside activities also.
David Montiel • Nov 29, 2017 at 10:06 am
I dont really use twitter nor facebook but i use instagram. Social media is good for contacting friends and family but its also dangerous because there are people who pretend to be someone who their not and turn out to be hackers, kidnappers, killers and rapists.
Sage Singh • Nov 29, 2017 at 10:01 am
Teens use Social Media because, most teens spend most of their time on social media they live for it they love to get attention.

Aslin Santiago • Nov 29, 2017 at 9:39 am
i love this because not only it’s true and it’s based on facts but also it’s a good article like an amazing one. It really makes me be open-minded and realize everything around me because all of this is really true.
Sebastian Hernandez • Nov 29, 2017 at 9:39 am
I feel as if social media is a big part of our lives, but at the same time there’s nothing we can actually do. Being apart of this new generation technology is everything.
bailey feig • Nov 29, 2017 at 9:38 am
Basically social media has impacted teens and its not a good thing the teens dont go outside as much and they are always on there phone and never experiencing real life , when they are always on social media they dont make new friends and dont interact as much .
Paulo Guerra • Nov 29, 2017 at 9:38 am
Social media is fun and it keeps us updated on everything that goes on in the world besides,I only use Spotify and SoundCloud the most because i like music better.
Xavia Grant • Nov 29, 2017 at 9:05 am
Social Media is a place you go to share your view on thong it but it is sometimes used to bully.
Nelson Castiblanco • Nov 29, 2017 at 8:58 am
we need social media because i can talk with my friends and text them, i can talk to my mom and dad if there number is not working.
Sergio • Nov 29, 2017 at 8:55 am

Alyssa G • Nov 29, 2017 at 8:55 am
I agree, social media is a vital part of teens lives in this generation for communication and entertainment. Great article !
Sergio • Nov 29, 2017 at 8:55 am
I agree
Mikey • Nov 29, 2017 at 8:53 am
I agree that teens use phone very frequently, but we use them as a way to connect to others. Its easier to text your friend that to walk over to their house.
Jeffery • Nov 29, 2017 at 8:51 am
I agree, people are always on there phone
Olivia Baret • Nov 29, 2017 at 8:51 am
My opinion is this is normal everything is on the phone and what we see most of the time on our phone is interesting our phone is our life !!
Ian Rattigan • Nov 29, 2017 at 8:50 am
Teens spend a lot of time on the internet and less time actually using their brain to study
Bartholdy Alexandre • Nov 29, 2017 at 8:45 am
My opinion is that today in our modern society people in general not just teenagers are so addicted to social media that they feel that they can’t go a second without it, while it is not that hard to do because once you set your mind up to achieve something, you will achieve it as long as you trust yourself.
Juana • Nov 29, 2017 at 8:15 am
My opinion on this topic is that teenagers are really addicted to social media. I personally go on social media more than 5 times daily. Social media is a big part of every teens life.
jordane morris • Nov 28, 2017 at 2:27 pm
social media is the only nowadays to be knowing what going on in the world or in your community besides sometimes phone are the only thing that really matters to some people because social. media pays depending on how many people watch what you do
Carlos • Nov 28, 2017 at 2:26 pm
I think that all in this article is right, we are every day more connected to our phones and less connected with the real life, all the thing that we do are only see the screen of our phones and see comments, puclications, how many “likes” we have in a photo and it’s getting worst every time without rest, literally we can’t stay one day without our phones it’s so sad for me, but we can solve this by only shutting down the phone and talking with our friends FACE TO FACE no by the social networks. I hope that this situation could change before it get too late for a change
zaryha davis • Nov 28, 2017 at 2:25 pm
i rather play video games because you get a sense of accomplishment when you play but i do go on social media time to time
Cristian Suarez • Nov 28, 2017 at 2:22 pm
Personally, I think people should spend less time on social media and more time on finding a fun hobby to do.
Daniel Durocher • Nov 28, 2017 at 2:17 pm
I believe that phones might be taking over our everyday life .
Velduer Louis • Nov 28, 2017 at 2:13 pm
Social media is big, and it shows how much technology has advanced over the years. Though there is a bad side to it such as more people are stuck to their screen and monitors, and even a chance of meeting bad people. It also has benefits people are able to speak their minds in certain topic, maybe even talk to friends they probably would never have meet in their life time. Social media can also help with school and work, but it can also hinder it. To much social media is a bad thing, but to little and your missing out on alot of opportunists.
Maicol Hernandez • Nov 28, 2017 at 2:12 pm
Guns should not be aloud to for unstable people
Richard Minton • Nov 28, 2017 at 11:18 am
I believe it’s true because I know a lot of people who can’t live without social media.Social media is addicting and it’s hard to stay away from.
Valerie Kelly • Nov 28, 2017 at 10:43 am
Social media is the newest member of our family. Now, let’s figure out ways to safely live together.
