“Spider-Man: No Way Home” Movie Review
February 7, 2022
Easily the most awaited movie of 2021, “Spider-Man: No Way Home” is a thrilling adventure movie, filled with surprises that will have you leaping out of your seat from beginning to end. It’s no easy feat to put a new spin on the Marvel Comics money-maker, but director Jon Watts manages to breathe new life into an old story by bringing together the best parts of all eight live action Spider-Man films. Out of all Spider-Man movies, this one has the most engaging plot. Following the events of “Spider-Man: Far From Home” Peter Parker’s identity has now been revealed and the techno-wizard, Mysterio, has everyone convinced that the drone attack was Spider-Man’s doing.
Since the world found out that Peter Parker is Spider-Man, he asks Doctor Strange for help with erasing everyone’s memory of his identity, but, when Strange tells him that even MJ, Ned, and Aunt May will have their memories erased, Peter decides to interfere with Strange’s sorcery, allowing visitors from other realities to pay them a visit. Now, Parker wants to find a way to get them back to their alternate realities without handing them over to their inevitable deaths. With setbacks along the way Parker receives help from special guests.
Tom Holland’s acting makes Spider-Man into the perfect teenage superhero, exhibiting a child-like demeanor while he deals with being part of the ultimate superhero clique, The Avengers.
Reemerging from his 2019 Marvel appearances “Endgame”, actor Benedict Cumberbatch ties the film to the rest of the Avengers in connecting various beloved comic book characters as Marvel’s movies are known to do. As always, the CGI allows Cumberbatch’s character to a new level of astounding sorcery leaving the world of possibility, infinite.
Actor Jacob Batalon is first introduced as Parker’s best friend. Ned is the first person to discover that Parker is the “web-headed” hero. He immediately submerges himself into Parker’s world, becoming Peter’s sidekick and “guy in the chair.”
MJ appears in every Spider-Man trilogy but never appears quite the same. We often know MJ as Mary Jane, but Tom Holland’s MJ is Michelle Jones. Zendaya appears as MJ for the first time in the 2017 film, “Spider-Man: Homecoming”. Although Peter Parker’s love interest doesn’t change, in contrast to previous MJ’s, Michelle Jones is sarcastic, and not interested in being friendly; she is more real. Because of this, she presents major character development as she becomes more involved with Peter Parker’s dream team Eventually they form a strong enough bond where Parker confirms MJ’s suspicion of his second identity as Spider-Man.
If you choose to watch any movie this week, “Spider-Man: No Way Home” is definitely the way to go. Just be prepared for surprises from start to end. If you decide to experience it in theaters be prepared for screaming, laughing, and crying from the whole crowd. And be sure to stay after the end credits. You won’t regret it!
