Brianna Osavas, also known as Bri, is a 17-year-old junior at South Broward High School whose evolving narrative is now being captured through a photographic lens. While being enrolled in a journalism/photojournalism class, Osavas discovered a profound passion for capturing the world around her.
“I can’t describe how it feels falling in love with a lens since I was 15 years old,” said Osavas.
She harbors ambitions of becoming a professional photographer, channeling her artistic eye and innate adaptability into a future career. Born in Miami and raised in Puerto Rico until she was 8 years old due to money and her parents’ separation, Osava’s frequent geography built exceptional resilience in her, a sentiment she connects to through her favorite lyrics from Frank Ocean’s “Ivy.”
“I ain’t a kid no more… We’ll never be those kids again,” she said.
Her history also speaks to profound resilience in the face of setbacks. A former dedicated athlete, Osavas’s freshman year was interrupted by a significant ACL and Meniscus tear while playing flag football.
“The mental recovery from my injury is ongoing, but my motivation to re-engage with sports remains strong,” said Osavas.
She is a do-or-die kind of person.
“No matter how hard things get, it will never get easier, so always have confidence in yourself,” she said.
She demonstrates this mindset not just in sports but in her daily life as well, taking care of her family and remaining committed to physical activity, including basketball, in her free time.
