Deanna Martinez, is a 15 year old Freshman now in the process of developing her passion for journalism, attending South Broward High-school. Originating from a mixed-heritage background and immigrant family with both connections in Cuban and Puerto-Rican roots, she was born in Hollywood, Florida, and has lived here since.
She has a myriad of interests, which range from the study of neurology, political science, psychology, artificial intelligence, American history, to sociology. In addition, her leisure activities consist of reading articles from left-leaning news organizations online— most notably Vox and Al-Jazeera, taking delight in video games, as well as surfing the web to find topics that pique her interest coupled by her fascination with Gothic architecture.
In academics, her primary strengths include writing essays and retaining historical concepts. Her leading weakness is mathematics.
“complication of formulas and applying certain methods troubles me most,” Martinez says.
She is commonly known to be a introspective and ambitious student who favors working individually.
“What captivates me about journalism is its functionality as a tool to promote the distribution of essential information and its role as a foundational outlet for openly expressing one’s views,” said the freshman.
“This field is what should revitalize the fundamental core values of a democracy.” She added.
Her preferences in music genres are extensive, typically a mixture of traditional genres and progressive genres. This includes Alternative Hip-Hop to Post-Punk.
She visualizes herself obtaining a degree in political science from Florida International University.
