Derwin Roach Jr

Derwin Roach Jr, 17, is a senior at SBHS. He has spent his years at school serving the Class of 2026, and enhancing his experience through extracurricular activities. He raised an estimated amount of $4,000 for the Class of 2026 in his tenure as Class President. Derwin strives to excel in his classes and is a member of South Broward’s AICE Cambridge Program and ICAN Magnet. He has been enrolled in Mr. Hagerty’s Engineering class since his Freshman year.

Roach also participates in and leads numerous clubs, He served as President of the Class of 2026, President of 5000 Role Models, Secretary of Science Olympiad, and a member of DECA. Derwin is also a BRACE Cadet.

“I think it’s beneficial for my peers and friends to get involved in the various things our school has to offer. There’s something for everyone.” Roach said.

Movies and film are Derwin’s #1 passion. He’s seen thousands of movies and has a special affinity for the movie theater and prefers watching movies at the theater rather than at home. Although he would like to major in engineering, he also has considered a career in acting and film. Derwin played the role of Coach Carr in the SBHS production of Mean Girls in 2024.

“My love for film was passed down from my Grandad and Mom, I love the endless amount of stories you can tell. It’s inspirational” said Roach.

Derwin also takes interest in politics, and he tries to stay aware of what happens in the world around him.
