Katie Abreu is a 15 year old junior at South Broward High School. She was born in Dominican Republic and moved to Florida at 6 years old. Abreu decided to take journalism to try new, challenging things. She believes that it will help her improve her writing skills.
She has a variety of hobbies, ranging from listening to music, drawing, playing video games, and crocheting. These hobbies have been proven to be helpful for her in dealing with stress caused by the current ongoing pandemic.
Abreu believes that the current pandemic has negatively affected the school system and how students learn. “Schools have resorted to using applications like zoom and Microsoft teams to teach their students. This method proves ineffective, because even though teachers may give their usual lecture, the studious environment that only a school, or maybe even a library can offer is no longer available to students in their homes, which can result in lower grades, a loss of focus and participation, etc…” said Abreu.
