Krystal Garcia is an 18-year-old junior at South Broward High School. She was born in Venezuela, then went to Mexico when she was three, then to the United States for a year, then back to Mexico for another ten years, and finally back to the United States, where she has been for the past five.
“It affected me mentally when I moved from my home country because I was losing all my friends and family when I left. I had a tough time making friends and fitting in with many of my classmates. Talking to the teachers was all a bit stressful,” said Garcia.
Garcia has been taking photos ever since she was ten years old and is sometimes referred to as Krys by her friends and family. Her hobbies include drawing and capturing photographs of the sky from various travel places she has been to.
“I love to travel and have traveled a lot throughout my years, but my top three travel places are Chicago, Alabama, and Illinois,” said Garcia.
Garcia has expressed that the hardest thing about being a student is waking up incredibly early in the morning for school but what brings this young junior her biggest stress is work and spiders. Garcia looks up to her father who has looked after her since she was a baby and a fond memory of her with her father.
“When I traveled, my father and I would take mini road trips together, enjoying music as we went. We would visit new and interesting sites while traveling as well as playing road game along the journey,” said Garcia.
