Precious Figueroa, 15, was born in Hollywood, Florida and attends South Broward High as a sophomore. Initially, she had no interest in journalism, but after realizing that she wanted to step outside of her comfort zone and learn news skills, she changed her mind and decided to stay.

"I hope to gain more confidence while taking journalism and pick up additional skills to improve my writing," Figueroa stated.

She enjoys reading, writing and occasionally drawing. In her spare time, she enjoys playing games, watching movies, sleeping and spending time with her family. Since she sees herself attending college in the future, she is constantly trying to improve herself academically. Her greatest academic strength is science but her favorite subject is history.

"I love history because it can teach us so much about our past and about society, it helps us to understand why things are the way things are" she says.

She's very fond of flowers. She speaks about how her favorite flowers are blue lilies because they symbolize purity and fertility. She loves lavenders as well because of its beauty and not to mention the calming scent it gives off.
