Sabreyca Mullings, 14, is a sophomore at South Broward High School. She was born and raised in Trelawny, Jamaica, a middle class rural environment. The last time Mullings visited Jamaica was in January of this year to see her family. She adores the culture and history of Jamaica.
“I love the vibrant colors and people in Jamaica,” she said, “I feel overall more comfortable and like my true self there.”
In the 4th grade, she moved to Hollywood, Florida. It was a significant change in environment for her, but she quickly adjusted. Mullings attended Colbert Elementary to finish her elementary years. She then attended Avant Garde Academy, where she completed her 6th through 9th grade years.
Mullings favorites of 2022 have drastically changed since last year. She used to listen to jazz and pop, and now she enjoys listening to R&B and rap music. Her favorite artists include Jhene Aiko, H.E.R., Sza, Nicki Minaj, and Megan thee Stallion. Last year, she developed her love for books. Her favorite books include “Archer’s Voice,” “The Blood Spell,” and “A Wrinkle in Time.”
“Books give me a sense of escape from reality and they relax my mind,” said Mullings.
