Skye Gannon, 17, a senior at South Broward High School has always had a passion for literature. Whether it was writing or reading it, she never could go more than a day without experiencing some type of book or poem.

“My childhood was chaotic, the only constant I had was books. Whether it was from the school library or my grandmother’s hand me downs, I always had a book in my hand,” said the senior.

She spends her days off working on her novels. Gannon is currently writing a coming of age novel that she is on her second draft of. She’s planning on pursuing a career in writing and editing when she graduates college.

When she isn’t writing or reading you can find her cooking, baking, painting or taking care of her nieces and nephews. Gannon has a deep love for all types of food and enjoys experimenting with different cultures’ dishes. Her favorite thing to cook is spaghetti and Bolognese sauce.

Gannon plans on attending the University of Maine after she graduates this year. Her goals are to double major in English Literature and Marketing.

After college she plans on working at her brother’s carpeting company Neff Beautiful Living.

“As much as I would love to be an author and have the same impact on the world as my favorite writers have, it’s hard to make a name for yourself on that scale. So, I’m going into a career in marketing,” said Gannon.
