This is Olivia Colabella, a 17-year old senior at South Broward High School. Her interests include photography and personal writing. Throughout high school, her writing has mainly been for her own personal use.
This is her first year in journalism and she is eager to improve her writing. A reason why Colabella is taking journalism is to step out of her comfort zone.
“I’ve always been shy and uneasy when it comes to approaching new things and new people,” said Colabella.
Other than writing, she has a deep interest in fashion and painting. Colabella loves to keep up with currently-trending fashion styles but she also enjoys bringing back old styles and “combining them.” She also enjoys watching documentaries about crime scene investigation. She watches these with her family as a way to spend time together.
In 10 years she strives to be done with college. Afterward, she wants to take time off to travel the world. For her, traveling around the world is a big opportunity to improve her photography skills and her writing. She is always interested in learning new things and better her technique.
A quote that Colabella relies heavily on is, “I would rather have a mind opened by wonder than one closed by belief,” by Gerry Spence, an American writer, and lawyer. She likes being able to think for herself and not being told what to believe.
