Moving at snails pace, what look to be like tiny metal insects maneuver towards the finish line, by passing obstacles and moving blocks in order to win.

At 10/23/17 Sebastian had one of his very first competitions that Monday.

“It was extremely exhilarating and scary alike,” said Sebastian, “I had a burst of energy, it was such an amazing experience, I was screaming and giving support to our team the whole time.”

Now weeks later, Sebastian has a newfound passion for the SBHS Robotics Club.

, he said that

“At first I thought this club was just going to be boring, but after realizing what actually went down in the competitions, I realized it was an amazing, fun club with great people within it”.

He also said that “Although, there is really nothing to win besides a trophy from these competitions, the real prize is the friendships you build with your teammates all the way”.

Even though they have never been to regionals or anything, he said they will always keep trying no matter what and improve their techniques.

The robots they build go against other robots, which were previously created by the enemy team. Both robots rush to finish whatever task they had at hand, which could be navigating through several obstacles such as blocks.

On Monday morning Sebastian told the story that, the overall concept of the Robotics Club, he explained in depth, was to utilize normal everyday skills, and put wonderful minds together in order to build a robot that can perform several different, unique actions.

Sebastian had a little bit of advice for newcomers in this club, he said don’t over-complicate things, if you don’t understand something about the club ask one of your peers. Sebastian described a riveting mental picture of the club this Friday and I was completely overwhelmed by what he described. Between the scattered pieces of wire, great minds working together on one project or another and a robot in action, it was impossible to decide what was cooler!

He told me about what they did every time they met and at the competitions. To summarize, he said that they first tend to draw out what they plan to build.

They then proceed to make it almost look like a blueprint he said. Then they all get together and see in what possible way they can actually accomplish their goal of finishing this “project” if you will.

After they figured that out, they get to work as fast as possible and don’t stop till they have to go. This is mainly because they absolutely must prepare for their next competition otherwise they could lose to the competition, which is absolutely something that cannot occur in this club.

So, if you are interested in joining the Robotics Club just join right into the fun, and don’t worry about getting anything wrong, your peers are here to help!
