The Most Controversial Debate in America
November 15, 2017
September, October, November. Las Vegas; Sutherland, Texas; New York. Three months of school, three mass shootings.
Gun Control is one of the biggest controversies in America today with one side for guns to be completely unregulated and the other for guns to be regulated. Everyone has their own point of view for their reasoning behind what they believe. The people that believe guns should be unregulated could be because a loved one was hurt or killed, and they think that if they had a gun it never would’ve happened or at least would’ve happened differently.
In a recent interview with Jordy Navarro he gives us his thoughts on gun control. When asked what he thinks about guns he said, “They’re dangerous in the wrong hands.” but he does believe that guns should be unregulated because he believes “Easier access to guns means people are safer.” When asked if her or anyone he knows has ever had experience with gun violence he stated, “A drunk dude pulled a gun on me and my friend, and my parents have a gun.”
The other side of the argument may believe that if guns were regulated then most of the robberies, assault, murders, and all the mass shootings that have happened such as Las Vegas, New York, The Pulse Nightclub, Columbine, Sandy Hook, and all the other recent mass shootings.
The people that are for guns to be regulated are sick of all the gun violence that’s been happening recently; on average there are nearly 12,000 gun homicides a year in the U.S. According to “Everytown” in 2015 there was a total of 36,252 instances of gun violence with 12,979 homicides, 22,018 suicides, 489 unintentional, 484 legal interventions, and 267 undetermined intent. In the U.S. black people are 14 times more likely to be killed by a gun.
The people that are for guns to be unregulated believe that they have the right to own a gun because of the Second Amendment, which states “The right of the people to keep and bear arms.” They also believe that I is much safer for them and their families to have a gun in their house incase there is an intruder that may be trying to rob them, destroy their home, or even kill them.
According to “neighborhood scout” the number of violent crimes on Hollywood, Florida in the past year is 653 and Hollywood is safer than only 11% of U.S. cities.
