Meet Shanell Uptgrow, an extremely opinionated seventeen year old- 12th grader who is not afraid to let her voice be heard. Uprtgrow's reasoning for choosing journalism 2 is to try something different. Expect the unexpected. Her passion includes poetry, and being a voice for the silent. Academically her greatest strength is language arts. While her academic weakness is math in general. Everyday, she reads books as a way of media. She hopes to join the Ebony club this year.
Outside from school, Uptgrow enjoys meditating and enjoying her dogs company. She also works at a lemonade organization after school. Musically wise, she plays the drums and the sax. She claims its easy to comprehend. She hopes for world peace, she dreams to be successful, and fears the darkness. As well as spiders. Animal- wise, she believes that she is more of a cat person, because she is more independent. Her favorite animals are dogs and rabbits. Her favorite insects is definitely NOT spiders, but ladybugs. Her favorite plant is aloe. Uptgrow's favorite color is blue.
While some people may look up to artist and musicians Shanell looks up to her mother, because of her strength, and how patient, and courteous she is. In the future she aspires to be successful, and let her flaws make her. Not to mention own a house, and make five to six figures (Literally). As for music, she fancies all genres r&b especially, but does not take the liking of heavy metal. She believes "All the screaming is highly unnecessary". Her go to outfit consist in a t-shirt, sweatpants, and a jacket. You will not catch her dead in "Hot pink".
Her favorite movie is "The Haunted Mansion". Her favorite food is lasagna. She enjoys football and basketball. The books she favors the most is "Fetish". Her favorite politician is Michelle Obama. Not to mention her favorite performers are Tupac and Biggie Smalls. Ironically though, if she could meet anyone dead or alive, she would encounter with her grandma, to ask her how did she put up with so much obstacles in her life.
As for herself, she feels like she wants to improve in her body, and sense of humor. Sometimes she feels like her sense of humor can take a dark path. If she can go three places, she would go to Tokyo, France, and Dubai. Uptgrow's message to the audience would be don't be ignorant, or try to be someone else". "One day you'll figure out that you, alone is just enough." Overall, Shanell is a shy person and if you stick around long enough, she will eventually come out of her shell. Although this is a little taste of who she is, like The Notorious B.I.G once said, "If you don't know now you know, you know".
