SBHS Boys Volleyball Edge Out Cypress Bay, but Lose to Cardinal Gibbons
April 10, 2022
In math class six is greater than two, but last week two beat out six. The sixth ranked South Broward High School Boys Volleyball team couldn’t pull off the upset against the second ranked Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs in a highly anticipated top seeded matchup.
The Bulldogs pulled off a surprise win in the first set, 25-21, but couldn’t keep up the pace against the higher ranked Chiefs, losing the next three sets, for a final score of 3-1.
Coming into the game against Cardinal Gibbons, the Bulldogs had only lost three sets their entire season. It was especially tough, because it was the first loss of an otherwise perfect season.
The night before, the Bulldogs had a tough outing against a lesser ranked Cypress Bay squad. The match took five sets, but ultimately went to South Broward, 3-2, after they bounced back in the fifth set to maintain their spotless record.
Throughout the season, South Broward Boys Volleyball has completely dominated opponents, winning in straight sets on a regular basis. Some players, like senior Rafael Angarita, believe that the competitive matches against Cardinal Gibbons and Cypress Bay serve as a wake up call for the rest of the season.
“We just had an off week,” said Angarita. “These matches will help us get back on track for the playoffs.”
