With work stacking upon student’s desks and anxiety and stress levels increasing, Broward schools have decided to cancel all Professional Planning Days (PSD) for the rest of the 20-21 school year.

A student at South Broward High School, Stephanie Manucha, heavily disagrees with the cancelation.

“I think it’s really unfair that they would cancel these days, I mean, come on! With exams approaching and getting handed a lot more work than usual, and trying to cram everything in my head, those days really helped me out”’ said Manucha.

Some students from other schools also disagreed with the cancelation even though they themselves did not have these days.

Kelly Mena Gomez is a student at McFatter High School and thinks that PSD days are really good because it allows a student to catch up on work and gives them more free time. ”PSD days should be provided to students around the country, it brings so many benefits to us”, said Kelly Mena Gomez.

And now without these days, the number of mental breaks that students would have would absolutely increase.

Matias Arenas, 15, from Avant Garde Academy believes that it is not unfair or needed to take away these days, especially this year with the many people struggling.

He says that “People might think it’s unfair for this to happen during these times” because of the numerous problems people are having. “This would make people feel anxious about the many things that they have to do with the little time that they have”.

He says that it would make him feel uneasy because he then wouldn’t have the same amount of time to get things done and it would stress him a ton.

All three students believe that this would not only affect student’s grades but also their mental health.

Kelly says that it would very much so affect her mental health, if she had grown used to having these days, not having them would cause an increase in her stress and anxiety levels. She also mentions that if she did have these days and then for them to stop, a lot of her time would be cut short, and she wouldn’t really have “much of a life”.

“If these days were to stop, my schedule would be completely compact. I wouldn’t have time to do what I want and my life would revolve around school” said Kelly.

Stephanie Manucha has really enjoyed having these days off. Shey says that she was able to relax and leave earlier than usual. With all the studying and work she has to do daily, she could at least have these days to relax.

“This situation with removing the PSD days really makes me disappointed,” said Manucha.

She says that it was supposed to be a day for students to relax and catch up on their work.

“It was a nice day for us to destress and now they just took it away. They should’ve just kept the days and let us actually relax for once” she said.
