Frances Sophia Capri Gonzales Azarian is a 17-year-old junior at SBHS. Because her name is long, she goes by Frankie.
“My mom and dad couldn’t decide whose last name to take, so they gave me both,” said Gonzales Azarian.
She was born in Armenia and has lived in France and England before landing in the U.S. Gonzales Azarian says she speaks eight languages including French, Arabic, and Swedish.
Before she came to SBHS, she was at a charter school called the International Studies Academy; “My old school was small, really diverse, and didn’t have a lot of clubs,” said Gonzales Azarion.
SBHS is the opposite of her old school.
“It is huge, and it has a lot of clubs,” she said.
She never thought about joining any clubs before. But now she has joined the guitar club and marching band, which was a huge change for her. “Mr. Ledee told me to join because I would be a good musician in this club. I’m good at guitar bass and singing,” Gonzales Azarian.
“I know people who come to our school, and I’ve expanded my friend group just a bit,” she said.
She likes the music band the best because it taught her a lot and gave her discipline in life.
“Someone I was really close with me told me to join band and I decided would give it a try and I really liked it.” Gonzales Azarian explained.
“I think without band I wouldn’t have found myself.”
Her favorite subjects are art and science. Art, because it is relaxing, and science because her family has a history of liking sciences like physiology, and biology.
“It runs in my family,” she said.
Overall, she is enjoying South Broward.
“I am having a wonderful year here, and I am enjoying my time here,” she said.
Her advice for future generations?
“Have fun doing what you want. Don’t let anyone stop you just because they say you can’t. If something feels right in your heart, go for it, or you might live to regret it.”
